Oil cooler for a KZ440? was created by Nerdy
Hi all - I'm working on a project bike that will have the engine from what I suspect is a KZ440A. (engine# = KZ440AE00...) Which is funny because the engine came as part of a KZ440B basket case.
(Unless I'm wrong about the A designator, which is entirely possible)
I hadn't looked at the engine in quite a while and did not realize/remember it has the same hard oil line going from the oil pressure sensor to the head that e.g. the '78-'79 KZ400s had. So now I'm thinking...
Can I run a flexible oil line from the pressure sensor fitting to a small oil cooler [in the usual place] and return to the banjo fitting on the head? Okay, obviously I *can*, but would it be a bad idea?
The oil pump is already raising oil to the head, so the only additional load (I think) would be pushing the oil laterally to the front of the engine, through the cooler, and back to the return.
(An oil cooler may or may not be necessary; that is not the question here. )

Yes you can loop in an oil cooler to the existing oil feed line. It´s like the same oil cooling system on the big Zed´s.
Keep in mint it´s high pressure system not a high flow system like the KZ900/1000 roller bearing cranks need.

Vielen Dank für das Auskunft!
That is a good point about the pressure. I was planning to use braided stainless lines (flexible = easier) but it might be better to bend hard lines instead. Kawasaki used a hard line - maybe they did that because a rubber line would not have been strong enough to take the heat or pressure.
I'd also like to move the oil pressure sensor to the return fitting on the cylinder head: it will be important to know if oil is getting all the way through.
