KZ 1100 in a 1000 frame? was created by autovon
Hello all, I just bought a 1979 KZ1000ST (shaft) and I have the option of buying a 1981 KZ1100ST (shaft) motor. Would this be a direct swap, or would motor mounts have to be changed? I don’t have eyes on either item, so I’m wondering if anyone has made this swap before. I searched and couldn’t find anything. TIA

Motor mounts will need altering
The newer engine is slightly shorter.

On a chain drive engine swap it would mean a few things changed/altered but a shaft drive you might be looking at a few hurdles down the line like shaft length and alignment, never heard of anyone swapping a MK2 shaft for a "J" type..you would be in open water here mate. What about rebuilding the engine you have? Im sure the expense of buying a new engine would be about the same as rebuilding the one you have.

I appreciate the response. I likely will rebuild the motor, just wanted to explore options.

Good choice, Kz1000 Mk2 engine is a way cooler option regardless, im in the middle of a shaft to chain conversion build right now, its an option that could be taken down the road.
