Air Switch/Silencer Delete
20 Jun 2022 10:58
Sorry if this has been discussed before but I’ve searched and could not find a previous thread.
Im looking to possibly delete my Air switch and Silencer system off my ‘81 KZ750E. I’ve also heard it referenced as a “Fresh Air”system. First question, Is it worth deleting? Pros? Cons?
Second, if it’s worth it then is there a proper way to do it?
Any advice would help? Thanks

The system is officially the Kawasaki Clean Air System. As long as it is functioning, there is no real advantage to removing it. Many folks toss it anyway, me included. The proper way to do it is to remove all of the hoses and the switch valve. You will need a rubber plug to seal the hole in the air filter box. Then remove the cam cover. There is a small port from the reed cages into each exhaust port. They need to be tapped and have a grub screw installed to fully seal the port. Lastly, you will want to buy or fabricate some flat plates to replace the reed cage covers. If you are serious about the esthetics, you could buy a Canadian or European cam cover that does not have the reed cages at all.

Don’t forget to cap the vacuum port (number 4 in the diagram) on the carburetor(s) that the small line(s) connected to.

cylinder head cover w/o the reed valves. has blanking flanges to block the small ports on the cylinder head. not necessary. just an option.
