Which replacement mufflers for a KZ1100 Spectre?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice. I'm based on BC, Canada.

I've recently got a 1983 KZ1100 Spectre with the original black exhaust pipes and mufflers. A Kawasaki dealership told me that the orginal pipes and mufflers are all one piece, is that right?

The mufflers have got lots of holes underneath...I'm told I need to cut them off and fit new muffflers. I like the sound of the original mufflers and therefore am trying to ensure that any replacemnt mufflers I get are true to the original.

Black mufflers seem hard to come by so I'm guessing I'll need to replace them with chrome.

3 questions I'd appreciate help with:

1. Is it OK to cutt the mufflers off and fit aftermarket ones?
2. Does anyone manufacrure black aftermarket mufflers that would fit?.
Most importantly ....3. Which brand/style of mufflers are closest sounding to the orginal?

You can cut off the old mufflers & install replacements. Here's one option but chrome:
Helix Racing Megaphone Muffler. Emgo probably has something similar.

Many thanks @Daveo appreiate your help. The header pipes are still good jso just trying to find aftermarket mufflers if possible, but if not these look great, thanks again.

 

Thanks for the info @Martin_CSR  The left muffler on my original pipes has an indent for the centre stand on the left hand muffler. Do you know if the Helix or Emgo will still fit or will they force to centre stand to be pushed out?

That's probably going to be a problem. I don't think there are any aftermarket mufflers w an indent.  Some guys install a homemade stop on the center stand to keep it from banging the muffler, but it doesn't look right IMHO & not sure if the stand step could contact the pavement on sharp turns.

Probably the best option would be to get a used LH muffler. If not from a Spectre 1100, then perhaps from a different 1000/1100. or maybe from a Spectre 750 or some other model. ??? On some shaft drive models, the muffler is clamped in place from the factory.  I don't know what effect a muffler from a smaller motorcycle will have on how your motorcycle runs.

In 2012 I installed a shiny new V&H header, since there was no good used oem alternative available at the time.

I kept the center-stand on for a while, but eventually removed it completely.  Only use it when needed to service the bike, since it only takes a minute to thread the bolts in far enough to get the job done.  Quick, easy, and gone! 

Thanks again Martin_CSR for that. I'm trying to work out which other variants' mufflers would fit. Someone said the A2 pipes won't.
