Thanks Mikaw. Very interesting.He does mention paint stripper,so I might be on to something there.I'll hopefully have some results in the morning. Though I've noticed that the paint stripper of today is nowhere near as strong as it used to be. We will see.

I've always vapour blasted (aqua blast) with no concerns.  Just re-seat the valves when you put the head back together.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Not up for blasting. Budget and time wont allow it plus I'm leaving the valve guides in place. I'm just looking for a safe and effective way to DIY. I had everything in paint stripper overnight. Very underwhelming result. I think its doing something but hard to tell. I'll give it another night and see how it goes.
 I bought a couple of these;

Any thoughts on whether they'll be safe enough to use on the valve seats? I want the seats clean as possible before lapping.

The application list includes aluminum, but also gold and silver.  Those are pretty soft, so this brush might really be more for polishing that removing gunk.

I have used both the Dremel brass and stainless steel wheels to clean aluminum.  They work well.

Only use a brass brush, nylon is to soft on carbon.

If you haven't access to a blaster then a brass wire wheel in the drill works well in the combustion chamber and It won't harm the hardened valve seats .
For scraping carbon off piston crowns etc then copper plumbing pipe with a flattened and sharpened end is the welll known tool.
Valves will clean up with a wire wheel or a decent scraper.
You won't damage the valves as they are hardened steel
