Clutch slipping at 2000 miles kz305 was created by bert
I recently bought a kz305 in great condition with 2000 miles on it. The clutch begins to slip at around 6k rpm. The springs and plates are original. The clutch lever has some slack in it, and i'm using castrol actevo 10w40 motorcycle oil. Could the springs and/or plates just need replacement? With only 2000 miles on the odometer they definitely wouldn't be worn down, would they?

The springs could be pooped. They have been compressed since the bike was built. You could take a look at the plates while you are in there, but unless they have been badly abused, they are probably fine.

First step is to adjust the clutch per the factory Kawasaki manual. If that doesn't work, new clutch springs.

There are two different clutch release mechanisms for the KZ305. If yours is on the LH side, the manual doesn't specify in what direction to turn the adjusting screw: if clockwise first doesn't work, try counterclockwise first. If it's on the RH side, make sure the release is oriented correctly; if the adjustment doesn't work, you may need to replace the clutch cable.
