Piston Years and Sizes Interchangeability was created by Dr. Frankenstein
So I've been having 'fun' trying to track down some pistons for my '79 KZ400 H rebuild - Part # 13001-1001 - and they seem to be pretty much unobtainable. They are 64mm Standard pistons, and I notice that another KZ400 piston for the '74 - '77 model years is the same: 64mm,and seem to look identical to the ones I need - THEY are Part # 13001-069.
Can anybody tell me if that part number interchanges with the'79 KZ400 LTD?   Those pistons are everywhere it seems, and I can't imagine that Kawasaki went to great lengths to 'change up' every model year - or am I mistaken?

The KZ400 early and late pistons will interchange. But, .... There are 2 different style of domes. The blocks are also a different height from early and late engines.
Those differences are in thousands of an inch, nothing to keep it from working.  And you can always have it bored out to 67.5mm and use 440 pistons.
