Jetting & Float Help Needed was created by BigEZrex
So I’m helping a friend get a ‘77 KZ1000 running. This bike has the 26mm Mikuni carbs and they were trashed. Got them cleaned up and trying to get the float height and jetting set for his set-up.
he has aftermarket Delkevic exhaust and pod filters. Currently running a 120 main, 15 pilot and the floats are set at 25mm.
is this close? Or?
It seems really fat on bottom and cant get it to smooth out.
suggestion’s???

Zed1015 sells air corrector jets. They install into the air inlet passage of the pilot circuit. They really help the lower end make up for the additional air by pods. Start there. Post pictures of the plugs

The Delkevic needs no jetting changes so you only need to jet up for the pods.( Make sure they are good quality, free flowing K&N, APE,RAM AIR etc not cheap Moxi, Hi Level etc as these can be restrictive and cause rich running, power loss etc ).
You are currently miles too rich on the main.
You should fit air corrector jets ( see link   Air corrector jet kit.Kawasaki Z1,Z650,Z900,Z1000,Z1R.MK2, MIKUNI.LEDAR.PODS.K&N | eBay ) go up a couple of sizes from stock on the main ( around 115 depending on model ) and leave ALL other settings , pilot jet, needle position stock.
25mm float height is in the right range ( measured with bowl gasket removed ).
If you still find you are rich on the bottom end then inspect your choke plungers seats as these wear and leak giving the effect of permanently running on partial choke.
I can repair those if required.

Thanks
Would a 117.5 main be more appropriate or should I go lower?

117.5 will be better than 120 although that will still be too big but you should always start high and work down anyway.
