Camshaft question 82 440 was created by Peanuthead
I'm in the process of replacing the cylinder head gasket and I just removed the camshaft and I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. Please let me know if I need a new cam.

I just bought used cams for my 73 Z1 because one of my lobes had a “tear” you could catch with your fingernail. I don’t see that on yours, look closely for upset metal. Check your oil passages while it’s open.

No tears on the lobes.  Oil passages look good too. It wouldn't hurt to run some Emery cloth over them correct? To polish the lobes just a bit.

Do not use emery cloth, use scotch brite which is less agressive.

Last night I got back into the garage and started to finish the cylinder gasket replacement on Rusty. I stopped when I was having trouble trying to get the cam and gear installed. What's the trick? I'm following the manual exactly how it's written. I might try again tonight.
