Clutch suggestions was created by Bulletkz
Shopping for a clutch for my 80 kz1000 ltd and I was trying to decide what I should buy.
I did my research on here and most say oem stock but where do you buy oem stock?
I have been told barnetts or ABC but on here they say stay away from them.
I went to order a apc heavy duty clutch kit but of course it's been out of stock at z1 for a while now.
I was also going to order the apc roller but also out of stock.
I was told I don't need it in my 80 but I like replacing things while I'm at it anyway.

Sorry, but I've never heard of ABC or apc clutches so I can't offer any advice. By chance are you referring to APE? If so, have you tried contacting them direct instead of ordering through Z1?

Personally, I'd get stock. You can order from any dealership source, including the various on-line sources like Partzilla.

And not sure what a "apc roller" is either. Again, are you referring to APE? And what roller?

You can't beat O.E.M. fiber and steel clutch plates. Just add a set of H/D clutch springs and a needle bearing clutch pusher to those O.E.M. clutch plates and clutch cable. You can't get a better clutch for your bike. Period!!!!!!! Your '80 model should have the nice clutch release with all the little ball bearings. So you won't need that.

Yea, and screw all those cheap aftermarket clutch cables. Pure junk. Spend the big bucks and find a N.O.S. Kawasaki clutch cable. I paid 40 bucks for my last real Kawasaki cable. They are worth EVERY penny of their crazy price in my book.

I assume he's referring to EBC: ebcbrakes.com/products/clutches/

25+ years ago I put a Barnett clutch with heavy springs in my GPz550 - very pleased with it. YMMV.

"Extra plate" clutch packs have thin fiber plates which cause premature notching of the basket. I'd stay clear of those. HD springs increase hand effort so I'd stay clear of those too unless you have a motor that demands the extra clamp force. New OE springs typically gets it done for most stock or mild modded engines. Next step is half and half HD springs and stock.

Yes I meant APE , for some reason all their part #s are APC..
So oem over APE heavy duty?
Z1 has the oem but not APE in stock so that's good, just need to find the APE roller somewhere else.

You could just buy the APE needle bearing pusher from, um, APE.

Went all stock with the clutch, plates and springs. Got the ape roller.
Its soaking in oil waiting for me to install it.
I hate ordering parts from 10 different places. Especially when I have to pay for shipping on one small part.
