Using VHT rattle can engine paint on the covers. Want the cylinder walls cast aluminum and the head black.

Wondering if anyone has gotten away with the engine paint on the cylinder walls and head. Extreme high temp stuff (1200F) only comes in a flat black but it would likely hold up.

I am assuming a head temp probably around 300-350 but at stops it may go higher.

I'm pretty sure most people use engine paint when painting their engine. I've got VHT engine paint on my 750 and it's not falling off or anything, although it's brittle and cracked were screws clamp down. It's also not particularly fuel resistant. If I had to do it again I'd have used PJ1. I'm not sure how much better it is but PJ1 has a decent reputation.

I have used VHT roll bar and chassis paint with great success. I started doing touch up areas on my 1978KZ 1000- B2 and honestly could not go back now and tell you where those touchup areas are. It matches the sheen and tone of the KHI chassis exactly. Be careful as it is susceptible to chemicals until fully cured which at ambient temperature can take up to a couple of months. I also have used VHT caliper paint, I like the way it flows and builds up mill thickness as it dries. That being said thin layers with careful attention to build up are critical. I Have yet to use VHT engine paint. My next build will have matte black crinkle finish paint with glass bead engine covers. So I will be following this post to get recommended engine paint. Just as an FYI VHT caliper paint is rated at 900 degrees Fahrenheit and does come in a cast aluminum finish.

I have used 2K paint for gas tanks. Very nice results. Not affected by fuel spills. I don't know max temperature
