KZ750 exhaust was created by Claude.
I am about to get a 1984 KZ750L4 project bike for restoration. The bike currently has a Yoshimura 4-1 but I prefer an OEM exhaust.
I found an OEM exhaust off a 1977/1979 KZ750. Anyone knows if it will fit on a 1984?
Once again, thanks!

1977/1979 KZ750's are TWIN cylinder bikes so the answer is NO.
If you have made an error and meant to say 1977/1979 KZ650 then the answer is maybe. The exhaust will bolt up to the head and clear the oil pan no problem, but it's unlikely to align with the footpeg brackets in the back, although you may be able to make it fit with some modifications.

You're right, of course ; There’s so much I have to learn...
The 77-79 quote comes from the seller. I asked him after I read your post and he is unsure. The exhaust is for a 4 cylinder engine. He is selling parts from 650 and 750. The exhaust could be from a 650 but aren’t they with a reverse cone tip? The unit for sale has kind of trumpet shaped last section. Could you tell if I post the picture?
Thanks!

Pics always help. Some (most?) KZs have model info stamped into the mufflers.
Also, I don't know if it matters, but the 750L mufflers are clamped in place instead of being welded & I don't know if a welded-on-muffler system would be problematic, such as for doing a tire change or something. Cmsnl.com is the only place I know of that has diagrams for some Euro models.

I don' know what that is. In the USA:
77-80 KZ650s had cone-end mufflers, not megaphones as shown in the pic. ... (pretty sure).
81-83 KZ650s had megaphone mufflers but the headers tips have flanges welded-on, not flared as shown in the pic.
From the 81 KZ650 FSM the Euro models had megaphone mufflers & I assume they also had the header flanges.
Also, I would assume any 81-on system would have some sort of identification stamped into it. either the model or a Sankei number or something.
Stock mufflers. The 750L mufflers have recesses in them that might be for the axle and/or center stand clearance.
see eBay item number: 264164046375. I have no idea how a non-stock system will fit.
ZN mufflers. If I had a 750L, I'd look into a ZN700/750 muffler system or at least the manifold assy.

I just saw pics of a 1982 KZ750LTD that have megaphone mufflers but, as you said, there is a recess on the LH one for the centerstand.
I just asked the seller to send me a pictures of the stamped information. I'll be back with this info if I receive it.
Thanks a lot for your time!!

The muffler covers don't look right for a 750-4 Ltd. and I can't tell if they're welded-on or clamped/bolted in place.
80s style mufflers have longer muffler covers (heat shields). and are removable on all KZs.
Also, if there isn't a crossover pipe, those could be aftermarket.
BlackWidowExhausts in the UK sells a Zephyr ss manifold that might fit.

Seller here!
A while ago I purchased misc items from a fellow who made a few KZ650 into (gasp!) cafe racers and had leftover parts.
Those mufflers in question have absolutely no stamps or markings making me think they are not OEM.

As you wrote, they are surely not OEM. I ignore which aftermarket exhaust manufacturers makes a 4-2. But there also still a million of things I ignore about KZ bikes...
If I was living physically closer to you, I would borrow the exhaust to test try it on my KZ750 but that’s not really possible... Thanks anyway for the info you provided!

I found a complete OEM exhaust off a 1978 650SR that seems to be in quite good condition; depending of the anwers to my question below, I could go back there next week to inpect it closely, I am posting a picture below coming from an old post from Martin_CSR.
Question is: WIll this exhaust fit on my 1984 KZ750L4? As I wrote in OP, I prefer the look of a 4-2 system to replace the current 4-1 Yoshimura of my 750.
I understand I could have to adapt the mufflers hanger bracket's holes but the system must fit on the engine.
Thanks!
NOTE: I think this exhaust looks kind of cool with the des ign of the front tubes!
