Exhaust KZ400 on a KZ440 LTD 1983? was created by Michel3007
Hi everyone,
I am looking to replace the mufflers on my KZ440 LTD 1983 and I don't really know what I am dealing with so I would appreciate your help
To be honest, I didn´t realise changing exhausts would require so much information but hey, that´s the fun part of working on a bike, you get to learn things every day.
I live in France and it is pretty complicated to find parts for KZ440 around here but I just found someone selling a set of brand new Sito mufflers for a KZ400 74-80 (they have been sitting on a shelf for 15 years...) and I was wondering if, in terms of engine performance, these would do the trick for me? I am pretty sure I can manage to adapt them to the frame as the rearpegs are not in the same place on the 400 and 440.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am not familiar with Sito, but if their exhaust system works for the 400 twin, it should be fine for your 440. Keep in mind that there was also a KZ400 four cylinder machine. Its exhaust will be quite different. Also be aware that the factory system is one piece from the engine to the end of the silencer for each cylinder. The head pipe is welded to the silencer ( muffler ).

I am pretty sure it is for the twin KZ400, but will check with the seller.
I already have an exhaust system that is not the factory system with a head pipe (these are still good), a connector part in the middle and the muffler. Let's hope the installation is as easy as I iamgine it to be...
Thanks a lot for the quick answer TexasKZ, this forum is already of great help and it's good to know that you're there when in need
