Moving into summer here, with midday temperatures reaching 90F...
Most of my riding recently has been short-ish trips of 10 km, so what I describe next is new to me.
Stopped at a traffic light after a marvellous 80 Km run at average freeway speeds (100 to 130 Km/h) the oil pressure light was flickering on/off as the idle dropped below 1200 rpm. Yikes! Above 1200, the light goes out. I adjusted idle to 1250 and nursed her home, a further 2 Km or so...
I made an adaptor for a 10 Bar pressure gauge, that screws into the threaded oil gallery plug hole, located on the right hand side, below the ignition pickup cover.
Fresh SAE 40 oil ( and filter about 600 km ago)
When the engine is started from cold (ambient of 24 degrees C - I call it T-shirt weather!) idle (1000 rpm) pressure is about 2.5 bar, at 2000 rpm the pressure is just under 4 bar, and, at any rpm above 2000 it is straight 6 bar, so I know the relief valve is working.
As the engine warms up to operating temperature, the idle oil pressure gets down below 1 bar.
I remember reading somewhere that the oil pressure switch operates at 7 PSI (0.482 bar) Yikes!
What is an acceptable idle oil pressure, hot / cold?
Before I yank the clutch cover and sump to tear the oil pump apart, any ideas?

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

You may have a partially blocked oil strainer. Or you may have a collapsed oil filter.

You might want to pull the pan and check for black bits on the strainer . The clutch dampers break up and go into the pan .

Thanks all for your suggestions!
Off to the store to get an oil catch pan big enough...
Last time, it caught me off guard.
Draining the oil via the drain plug leaves almost a quart of oil in the sump, which elicited some "choice" words, that I don't want to repeat!
