Hi there I just painted tank and put it back together.I found the fuel line at the bottom of hose was wired tight and was leaking. After I fixed that the petcock was dripping.I can start the bike it runs with choke on but dies out.I do hear a dinging in the engine.Maybe the spark plug cables out.Any ideas.I just bought a new hobbie
Thanks

Hi Diocletain, from the title from your post, I am assuming that the bike ran properly prior to painting the tank. All I can think of is that there could have been debris in areas of the tank that would have been stirred up from removing and painting the tank. Some debris cold have made it into the carburetors and caused a number of different problems. From leaking petcock to sticking float valve needles to clogged jets. It is also possible that fuel could have found its way into the crank case. Check the oil level and look to see if the oil level has all of a sudden got higher. You can also open the oil cap and smell for gasoline in the crank case. If so, that will need to be rectified and the carburetors worked on to stop any leaking and any blockage.

You should install a good fuel filter between the tank and carbs to catch the other debris that is floating around in the tank. A Golan super mini will do a great job and takes up very little room. Yes, it is more expensive than most, but the filter media is cleanable, so it will likely be the last one you ever buy.

That’s a great idea.I just ordered one.Took bike on a 30 mile excursion on the way back bike started losing power. It would speed up then slow down.Im assuming the carbs are dirty again. Before I bought the bike it sat for 10 years.

Now is a good time to get ahead of this and run an electrolysis clean-out.

You'll be amazed at what electrolysis will pull out of an old gas tank.

I just ran a clean-out on a GPZ1100 tank which looked incredibly clean inside.

Nope, 5+ gallons of nasty-looking black gunk and rust got pulled out of it.

Fight this issue at the source. The gas tank!

If you try electrolysis, an old manual battery charger works best. Avoid "smart chargers"
because most are looking to "see" battery voltage and won't work if they don't.

There are tons of electrolysis how-to videos on youtube.
