My 82 elec. tachometer red line is 8500 rpms, and the Dyna 2000 rev limit is set on 9000.
I know she wants it. But I don't know what the limit is, or how long would be considered safe to hold her there.

The roller cranks are good to 11000 rpm max before the bearings rollers start to skid instead of roll.
My tuned Z1R has seen 12000 rpm a couple of times in the last 20 years and it's still going strong but i wouldn't recommend that.
If it's still producing power at 9000 rpm then go for it..

I've always pushed mine 300 to 500 in the red when things got serious. Have felt safe doing it knowing the KZ engineers have built em tough.

Had it out for a serious ride today, and tinkered around in the red zone.
We peaked at 9500 and held 9k for many seconds and several times. Didn't mind that, but tells me she wants more...

I bumped the pilot jets to 17.5 from 15's, and switched 0.7 air jets to 0.8's beforehand.
That was a good move. Whoa!

Oly SH*T!!! Makes me wonder what 20's would be like...

:woohoo: Baby!

Probably not much interest in this subject, but I've discovered the air jets play a significant part in fine-tuning RS Flat Slide carbs. One step off in either direction, and the effect is noticeable and detrimental for smooth engine performance.

I had installed 0.8 as noted, and tried 0.9 thinking both were needed to lean the low end mixture after increasing the pilot jet size to 17.5
Neither size was good, and of the two 0.9 was worse.

So we're back to the 0.7 that I had with the 15 pilot jets, and that subtle change brought a big improvement over the others for smooth engine operation.

:)

I think any documented tuning procedures with first hand results are an asset to the members. Maybe not today but someone will benefit. We all want to experience these machines at their full potential.

Can't find much user-friendly info for the RS carbs, considering how long Mikuni has been making them, and how popular they are.
