Exhaust help was created by Wildbill
My bike is a 1980 kz1000. Now I have been told it is an “A” but it has also been classified as a police bike. It has the police trim and solo seat. So my question is the exhaust is garbage has anybody cut the exhaust off the header pipes ( which seems to be one unit) and welded on new slip ons. If so some slip one say won’t work with LTD models. Since my bike has mag wheels, disk brakes front and rear does that make my bike a LTD? God there is so many classifications for this one bike I can’t keep it straight. I just want to keep the bike as close to original as possible. Thanks in advance

Cross reference the frame number to figure out the model. The 1980 1000 came in several flavors. Once you figure that out, you might find more detailed information or someone may be able to help you out a little easier.

Look at the steering stem neck of the frame. There you should find the VIN which should show the exact model of the bike. Ed

Wildbill, I went back and looked at the photo you posted in your first thread. As long as nobody modified an “A” to look like a “C” then you don’t have an “A”. It would take a lot of work to fab up the running board mounts and such. Good chances it a “C”. I”ve heard your version call the windshield model because it doesn’t have the full faring. 650ed has it correct. Find the vin and all will be right.

Thanks guys. That website helped a lot. According to the vin, frame and engine numbers it is a police bike.
Now to find a exhaust and windscreen. Let the search begin lol
