Is it hard to take out a tach drive ? What is involved? Cable broke and its leaking oil and im thinking it might be better to just do away with it.
Its a 1979 KZ750 twin.

You need to just cap off the end of it where it sticks out from the cylinder head, to remove it you have to remove the cam cover and drive it out from the inside, then have a plug made to fill the hole (or use epoxy or something). I think a tach cable is only around $12-$14 new.

Replacing your cable won't stop the oil leak. It needs a new seal. Pretty easy to change, but you have to be gentle with the phillips head screw that holds it in place. Picture shows how mine broke at the engine boss. I used JB Weld, and so far, so good, but you can see where it broke.

Once you have the driveshaft out, you can replace the seal.
Jeff @ Z1 has the seal kit.

Its a 1979 KZ750 twin.

Which is different than the fours, aside from having two less cylinders, it also does not have a phillips head screw holding the tach drive in :)
