Kz1000p performance exhaust? was created by John6988
I have a 1996 kzp that I am going to have to tear down because something has failed in the motor. Depending on what went wrong I'll likely spice things up some whole I'm in there. Faster is better. That being said the one thing that keeps throwing me off is what pipe to use. I assume the stock setup is lacking? Is there a good setup that will fit with floorboards and and bags? 4 into 1 or 2. I saw that Mac makes a 4 into 2 but have heard mixed reviews on quality for them and I'm not sure it offers any performance gain over the stock setup. Anyone have a suggestion or resources?

4 into 1 is the way to go for performance gains.

I would be really interested in seeing a dyno shootout of currently available systems. I remember reading about such a comparison made back in the '80s on a basically stock kz1000. As I recall, the Hooker system and the system tha had the muffler on the left side( brain fart on the brand) did really well. Kerker was about mid-pack. I was surprised to see that rhe very expensive Yoshimura system actually made less power than the factory setup, though I suspect it was designed for heavily modified race bikes. I suspect the sidewinder systems from Star and V&H are similarly tuned.
A bunch of folks have jumped on the Delkevic band wagon, but I have seen no dyno numbers. I have read that the Delkevic system for the ZRX is a copy of an older Black Widow system that made good power, so maybe their KZ system will as well.

Hey Tex are you referring to the attached article? It's a very interesting article, albeit difficult to read. I have an 82 kz1000 as well which has a kerker kz1000 and that bike rips. That said I'm not sure that a typical upswept 4 into 1 will clear floorboards and bags. I could do a switcheroo and find out but I haven't gone there yet. Also want to retain the centeratand. Edit attachment didn't work out. I think it's what you were referring to though.

Delkevic, supposedly for a 900. You just need to fab a hanger for the muffler. Easy peasy

That's a beauty, and it looks like the price is reasonable for them. All the ones I saw on their site look like they have more upswept muffler setups. Maybe it's an optical illusion. You have any more info?

I`m also very happy with my Delkevic system. When I ordred it could I choice between two types, classic and cafe racer style? the small muffle was the cafe racer style. and I have the classic type.

Can't comment on performance as I'm still waiting to get the bike registered (and it's a 750), but here's a couple of shots of the Delkevic from the side . You can see that the muffler is reasonably flat, not upswept as it looks on some of the photos. Pretty sure they use the same setup on the bigger bikes.

I did write to the guys at Delkevic in the UK to ask about their noise testing and they were pretty quick to respond and quite helpful. If they have any dyno data I'm sure they'd share if you ask.

Thanks again fellas. I think I'll give delkevic a ring and see what my options are. I took a few pictures around my right bag on the 96 kzp and near the can on the 82 1000. I'm thinking there may be enough room and I'm just worrying too much. I really need to get these 2 in the same garage and take some measurements.

Delkvic's 4-1 with muffler for the kz900/1000 fit well, and retains side bag. Center stand had to go. Nice sound,
