Next time I pull the head off my engine, I want to leave the cylinder block and pistons alone.
In my experience, whenever the head nuts come loose, the oil passage seals at the base gasket do too. I've learned to accept that, but...
There has got to be some trick that works to maintain that seal through the head swap process. If you happen to know a good one, please-please share it with us.

The J engines use a Hyvo cam chain. There are no idlers, only rubbing blocks.hardrockminer wrote: If you're pulling the head to change out the idlers on top of the cylinders you shouldn't need to disturb the base gasket. There is another idler under the cylinders and if you want to change that one at the same time you will have to pull the cylinders and change the base gasket.
