Hey guys, sorry if this is a repeat thread, I couldn't find another one.
I recently purchased an 82 kz750h with 11,500 miles. The carbs needed to be jetted so while doing that I found out my starter clutch was going bad (I thought it was just the starter itself). It will start and run but can take 7-8 times to get it started and makes a duck sound when trying to start. So I have 3 questions:

1: Do I need to replace the whole starter clutch or will the rebuild kit with the roller bearings, caps, and springs work?
2: If a whole starter clutch is needed, do you guys have any idea where to get one? I've been searching a couple days and having a hard time finding even a used one.
3: Is there another year that uses the same one I may be able to use?

Thanks in advanced for all the help!

Pins, springs, rollers are typically all you should need. Any OEM source like Partzilla should be able to supply the parts.

Take a look to see if the starter clutch gear is worn. The image below may help. If it's worn it should be replaced. Ed

My bike also had about 11k miles on it when I went through the engine. The clutch looked like Ed's "used" photo. I've also rebuilt a number of other motorcycle engines and I've never seen a clutch like Ed's "new" photo. Anyway, I put new rollers, springs, and pin's in mind and the starter clutch works fine. It does quack like a duck sometimes but I think that's a feature of the design, not a problem.

Thank you! I appreciate it.
Also, the videos I've seen state that its required to remove the engine for the oil pan removal to get to it. Is this required or is it something I can access from the sides?

You may have to remove the exhaust, but you can get the oil pan off and remove the secondary shaft from under the bike with the engine still in the frame.
