Hello Everybody,

I was just searching around the forum and didn't see an answer so I thought I'd ask.

I've got a 1978 LTD 1000 that I put a Vance and Hines pipe on about 20 years ago. It's the drag pipe that makes oil changes a little tougher and leaning to the right hairy if you're not paying attention.

Anyway, I just called Vance an Hines because I'd like to replace it (got a couple of small holes from dragging on the those right corners) and they have discontinued both the street version and the drag version.

I know there are other options for tuned pipes but I'm wondering what your opinions are on the brand to get. Ideally I would like to have an easier oil change as well as eliminate/reduce the risk of drag on right corners, without having to seriously mod for mounting.

This is actually kind of a surprise for my boy. I used to give him rides when he was just little, he'd sit in front of me straddling the gas tank with one foot perched on the head and the other on top of the kick start, while we putted around the neighborhood. Now, I'm lucky if I can beat him to it to take a ride alone because he's out on it all the time. Anyway, I think he'd rally dig a new pipe.

Any advice would be great
Thanks
Eric

Several members here have bought new systems from Delkevic and have been well pleased. There are also high end choices from Japan and Germany if you need to spend some money.

Here are some nice options from a German vendor.

I have a Delkevic megaphone system at the moment. They are good, well made, fit well and look good but for me personally they are just that little bit too loud. I believe their site says they are around 105 decibels at 60% power.

I'm taking it off this week sometime but not sure what to replace it with. Kerker are quieter but expensive, for me at least, and anything original is normally bashed up and scratched so not quite sure at the moment. I wish sites selling exhaust systems would state how loud they are in decibels, would make deciding a lot easier.

They only have two steel baffles inside. No fiberglass matting. would quiet the bike down if you wanted to try that before changing exhaust, Perry

Thank you, I never even thought of that but what a simple solution. I've just ordered some packing material from ebay and shall give it a try.

Thanks Everybody!

The boy and I spent a few hours last night after work and got the old Vance and Hines off (it was in way worse shape than I realized after I got if off and could see it better) and installed the Delkevic Stainless pipe. I'm a huge fan. Looks like I can change oil easier now, and thank God I can finally lean to the right again.

Thanks All, really appreciate the help and advice.

Best way to go in my opinion and stainless steel to boot. I've had Vance & Hines , Kerker. But love the Delkevic Stainless the best.... DITTO on the easier oil changes too.

I just built my own. Tons of places sell all the 304 stainless mandrel bends you need and collectors. But I also understand that it might be outside most folks comfort zone. Since I build all my own headers for my cars I just did the same thing on the bike. I run back straight pipe with a turn down.
