year model by engine number? was created by Torch
I've got a '78 KZ1000 B2 i just purchased, and somewhere along the long life it lived the engine was swapped out with a 903cc Z1. Is there anyway of telling which year the engine is from the engine numbers? Engine numbers are Z1E112452, thanks for any help.

Thanks for the quick reply, so either year is identical in assembly as far as carbs and other parts? Im needing to buy some individual air filters for the carbs, the factory airbox is missing and theres no telling how long its been running without any kind of breather at all.

You can find frame and engine numbers at www.zedder.com .

Go to the site, and click on Bike Info. Then you have to search each year/model.

The engine numbers for the 1976 KZ900-A4 and the 1977 KZ900-A5 go from Z1E086001 to Z1E138846.

Frame numbers don't match engine numbers, and I think that Kaw made spare engines that may have been installed in bikes over the years. So the date of the frame manufacture may be different than the engine.
