Secondary Shaft/Starter Clutch was created by tylergene19
This bike is completely new to me, I've never rode it, just heard it start and run. But when trying to start it it would make a loud grinding noise and slip. So I did some research and lead me to the starter clutch. I did purchase a Clymers manual and it states to tap on the secondary shaft until the bearing on the right side is free from the crankcase. Then to withdraw the secondary shaft and bearing from the right hand side while holding on to the starter clutch.. My thing is when tapping out the shaft the bearing came out fine but the starter clutch it self was stuck on the shaft. After wedging rags in between the gear and crankcase I managed to beat the shaft out of the clutch, it was not easy... So far everything thing I can find is the starter clutch should not be that tight on the shaft, it should just slip off. What could be the issue?? Also the manual shows there to be a needle bearing that goes on the shaft along with the gear and starter clutch which wasnt there during disassembly. Does my model just not come with the needle bearing..
Thanks for any advice

Not sure why things were so tight but the diagram on Partzilla shows the needle bearing...... #92046. Sure your not wrong on that...... the gear would be loose as a goose without it.

Here is the diagram for the 650H1

I am pretty sure that all of the KZ650/700/750 four cylinder engines use the same starter clutch.

I did it once,....I own a 750.....and the starter clutch just came off the shaft and dropped in my hand easy, the way the manual says.
….replace whatever is missing and the WHOLE starter clutch. Don't use one of those so called 'kits' (rollers and springs), ….the races also wear and is not visible to the naked eye. You don't want to do this again.
