82 Kawasaki kz750m

Hey everyone I have an issue that I hope someone could help I've been working on my kz750 the other day i went to do a compression test after hooking it up and using the kick starter it got stuck after two kicks now it wont kick unless I hold in the clutch so my ? Is if that’s normal cuz i never had to do that before does that mean the engine is locked up

Free bump for you since I have nothing specific to help. I doubt the engine is locked up via the pistons and more likely something is amiss with your kick start mechanism. Pulling the clutch is just a release so, your not moving anything internally. Remove the other plug and compression test fitting. Put a socket on the crank at the timing advance and try rotating from there. Possibly rocking it in either direction will help let the kick gears let go?
