81 to 82&up clutch release swap

I have a 81kz1000 j
I have a 82kz1000 j clutch release
I know the covers are different can i just put a big ass washer to cover the hole? Would that do the same as the other cover? Just wondering covers are 100 bucks washers are 35 cents lol anything would help. Please and thank you.

Folks I have asked prefer the earlier release.

I thought all the 1981 and 1982 J engine covers were the same, no matter which clutch release it has.

So to me the cases look different the newer models dont have the screw holes in the back. And the holes look a bit different or am I just over thinking it. I know the bolts all match up. And you said they like these better any reason why?

Supposedly, the earlier one is smoother and requires less strength to pull the lever.

Really? Sheesh this one is tougher than my iron head haha
