KZ 400 Interchangeable parts

I got a 79 kz400 that I'm in the process of tearing down. As I was taking the engine apart I noticed the shift drum was broken and I found a 78 for a good price I was wondering if this part would be interchangeable and if a lot of the parts are interchangeable between the 74-79 kz400. Any help is appreciated

1980 was the first year of the kz440. no such thing as a 80 kz400. however it appears the shift drum is the same 78-83 on the 400/440

Take a look at the link below. It looks like Kawasaki kept building some flavors of the 400 up through 1983 even though they started building the 440 in 1980. Ed
