My bike is an 1983 GPZ-1100 and I was wondering if anyone else has trouble with the base gaskets from Cometic interfering with front cam chain guide?

If you look close at this gasket I used in a mock assembly it was bent over by the front cam chain guide.

Did you install it backwards?

In my opinion you have flip over the front to rear aka upside down surface of the gasket. Is any site of the gasket stamp with an up or down Symbol?

edit : add a pic of the bottom rear gasket.

No sir. I used the dowel pins and they won't fit the back holes of the gasket if you put it in backwards.

I am not so skilled with the J-model engines but maybe you have to put in the chain guide first and then on top the base gasket.

The front cam chain guide is put in after the gasket and block are installed. It fits into the block then the head gasket and head go on top.

I take it you have had the same problem. My issue is I want to use a rubber coated steel gasket. I don't believe I will be able to easily trim it.

Are you sure that base gasket isn't for the earlier motor.
The slot for the cam tunnel is usually cut wider at the end where the guide sits on the 'J'..

That gasket doesn't look to be the right one for a J motor. This is the OEM paper base gasket for my 81 Kz1000.
