Burning oil. Rings and/or valve stem seals are most likely cause.

My first thought, it´s time to renew the valve stem seals. They goes hard and brittle over the decades, it´s a "must have maintance". How many miles on the engine speedo?

Just a hint, please use condoms to protect the new seals during the install. They will last longer smoke free.
