I was wondering what the consensus is concerning OEM copper exhaust gaskets vs. the aftermarket ones? Are the OEM copper ones worth the cost?

Worth the cost? The factory ones are pretty cheap. Depending on what bike you have, you are looking at about $4.50 to $6.50 each.

I would take the Suzuki gaskets, OD is 42 mm, can be re-use multiple times.

I have always used the O.E.M. Kawasaki exhaust gaskets.

Never use those cheapo fiber exhaust gaskets that come in some gasket kits.

Exhaust gaskets are like condoms, you use them once and throw them away!!!

Can't believe Kawasaki gets like 5 dollars now for a Kz1000 exhaust gasket!!!!!!

Glad I bought a bunch back in the 80's for like a dollar each!!!!

I use K&L exhaust gaskets for my 81 KZ650-CSR >> made in Japan & they look the same as oem.
Unfortunately, Z1Enterprises doesn't carry them any more. The Emgo copper gaskets Z1Ent now sells don't look that great to my eye.

The online K&L catalog still shows both common Kawasaki exhaust gaskets, 16-5975 is the Kawasaki part number 18067-018, and 16-5978 is the Kawasaki part number 18067-004. If I remember right 18067-004 fits all the Kz650's. You are right, the K&L exhaust gaskets are just as good as most of the O.E.M. gaskets. Local dealerships can order from K&L Supply. I think they have a 50 dollar minimal order for dealers. Sudco used to sell K&L products. They do sell customer direct too. Other online sellers might sell K&L TOO!!!

I would not use ANYTHING made by Emgo. They have made NOTHING BUT JUNK SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS!!!! Their oil filters are known to blow apart in the filter housings!!!! Their mirrors will fall apart in months. The chrome on their footpegs will flake with the first power wash!!! And on and on!!!!

Thanks guys. I used the emgo type and thought it was cheap . I wanted confirmation that I was correct and spending the extra money is the way to go.With shipping, the OEM ones run about $10 each. I will look into the K&L ones.
