hey everyone..i have an 81kz750 ltd and want to get rid of the smog pumper on the bike..i have had some plates made that go over the reed valves and was wondering if i would have to do anything to carbs before doing or am i wasting my time cause it wont wrk?..thanks for yinzers feedback...ride on!

You don't have to anything to the carbs.

is it uncommon to do away with smog pumper and reed valves on these old bikes?

Generally, you will want to keep the reed valves in place and cover them with a block off plate. APE sells them, or you can fab your own.

When did Kawasaki start using the reed valve technology on their KZ-1000 motorcycle? Would a 1977 model be so equipped? Thanks.

I think that in the U.S., the police bikes started using it in 1979 and the rest of the 1000cc bikes began using when the J engine came out in 1981.

i have a 77kz1000ltd and it doesnt have the smog pumper on it..my 750 81 has it ..took her out today ..runs great without the pumper..
