Thanks, Warren.

Speaking of mechanical issues, I recall reading somewhere that the metal plates can be somewhat directional. If they're stamped out of a sheet, one side will look slightly different from the other; let's call those side A and side B. If all of the A sides aren't facing the same direction, there can be slipping issues.

Then again, that was a lot of years ago. Even if my memory is working (ha!) it might not be true any more.

I was in on that Nerdy telling the guys Jeff at Z1 told me to keep all the curved sides towards the outside plate so that when it engages its slightly smoother and not to mix them....... he also said not to mix em as it might reduce the surface area "very" slightly and some of the know it all's on here gave me a lot of grief over it .... Just relaying what Jeff told me a very respected bike guy on here.

I appreciate the backup, but by "a lot of years ago" I mean 25 or so; it was probably something in a manual or in a magazine in the early 1990s. That may predate Z1 and definitely predates KZRider.com. :cheer:

Maybe it was when I installed the Barnett clutch in the GPz550. That would have been '93 or '94.

As soon as you posted about oil Nerdy it gave my memory a much needed boost. A mate with a h1 did a clutch replacement and had a the same issue. Oil specification was the culprit.

Z1000J2 somewhat modified!
