The clean air system should not be directly connected to the breather. At best it will pop like crazy. At worst you will blow the oil seals. The clean air system shuts off flow under certain conditions. Without the valve, it will backfire a lot. Just leave the breather open to the air. Done. Cap off all of the other clean air ports.

I actually have no idea. I kind of bought it "as is" . The previous owner either cut it out or bought it that way as well. I don't believe he rode it much.

Do you have the vacuum-operated control valve, and do you know for sure it is working properly? That would be rare to find.
If you don't have it, then you don't have much option other than to cap off the valve cover ports.

I do have the control valve although I haven’t tested it to see if it is properly working.
