1977 z1000 piston rings

Hi I’ve had to buy new piston rings as my bike had sat for a while+ old ones seized. Unfortunately I didn’t pay attention to the old ones when I removed them! My question is on the second compression ring should the notch face up or down? No markings on rings(genuine Kawasaki rings)
