Zn700 Starter Issues

Posted yesterday, and just wanted to do an update post.

I'm having issues starting my 1985 zn700. Whenever I go to start it I get this weird grinding noise:


Just today I opened up the other side of my engine to find that the clutch basket won't spin at all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I should be able to spin it by hand right?Either way, when I go to start the bike none of the gears spin.

So I'm wondering if you guys might know what I need to do to fix my issue. I'm very new to working on bikes so any help is much appreciated.

Your problem is the starter clutch is not engaging to the engine to turn over.
Remove the starter clutch and check the springs and clutch parts, please made some pics to investigate wear on the clutch parts.
