Cam Choices ? was created by kzdcw
Pulled my 77' KZ1000A motor out yesterday in prep. for 1075 kit. Like to look into a good "street" cam upgrade since I'm still going to use 28mm pumper and my 4into1 exhaust.

I've read that early Z1 cams have a better profile than my stock cams or even early GPZ1100 cams would be good ? Without having to go to "aftermarket" cams, Do you guys have any suggestions ?

I believe the cam profiles are the same, although very early Z1 cams were hollow. Valve clearance tolerance on your bike is a bit more than on Z1's.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

All 72 Z1 to 1980 Z1R/MK2 are pretty much the same profile give or take the odd fraction due to factory tolerances and wear.
The only stock cams that will make a favourable difference are from the 83 onwards GPZ1100A Unitrack or Z1100R ( approx 9.7mm lift) and you will need APE adaptor sprockets for them to fit.
Beware that GPZ cams from the german market bikes are milder due to the 100 bhp limit they have/had in force..

Zed1015, Looks like the 83 & 84' GPZ1100 cams are the ones you want as they appeared to increase in duration to 300 degrees and 9.7mm lift.

Now to locate them, ANYONE ?

Also Remember 83 /84 GPZ 1100 cams do not have provision for Tach drive if needed ?
