Yay or nay?
And if yay, which attachments should I get to get off oxidation.
If nay, why not and what is an alternative. My elbows no longer have grease. Tired of scrubbing

cylinders or engine covers ??
What are you currently using ??
On engine covers that are oxidized I use sandpaper first.
400 than 600 1000, 2000 or until they look good , Then I use a quality polish . Thats where all the opinions start as there are a lot of different ones we all use.
Cylinders are harder to do .

Engine covers what St fighter says........ 1,000 and 2,000 grit with water and a drop of soap makes all the difference at the end before hand polishing. Mothers is good..... look up for what Ed650 uses maybe too.

The problem I've found with the Dremel is A.) They only do a very small area. B.) the brushes / attachments are expensive C.) the brushes don't last very long. They're good for small areas and details, but not much else.
I'm a big fan of the Nyalox nylon brushes on a cordless drill. The Blue leaves a nice satin finish that can easily be hand polished to a high gloss with some paste cream (Mothers is my favorite). Start with the Orange if your cases are really bad. I haven't tried the White yet.

The Dremel tool is kinda like using a toy when it comes to doing any extended usage. It has no speed control on most models. I went through 2 or 3 of them before I bought myself something that is made to last!!!!!
Save your money and buy yourself a Foredom setup. They last for years!!!!!! Had mine for over 20 years. Never replaced the brushes yet!!! Only maintenance I have done to my is make sure the inner cable has a good coating of grease on it. I have done some real hogging with mine over the years. Its the same setup that most cylinder head porters use. Got mine from Grainger.
Dremel is like one step above what they sell at Harbor Freight.

I've got a cord type Dremel 3000 and use it all the time. It's variable speed and has a 1/8" arbor. Amazon sells bulk purchase stainless steel wire wheels for rotary tools which work good for getting into nooks and crannies come clean up time but I wouldn't consider them for wholesale polishing.
To redo engine covers and such I first use a DA sander with 220 grit sandpaper to get all the corrosion off. The dremel can be used for inside the bolt hole recesses. Next I use a stiff sisal polishing wheel on a car buffer motor and BLACK cutting compound. This will remove all the sanding scratches and bring the luster up to OEM levels. If you want a chrome like polish then you next need to move to a more fluffy stitched cotton wheel and some polishing rouge.
I used to do polishing by hand but it's a LOT of work and very slow. 600 grit provides and OEM look, which is more of a brushed finish than full polish.

I use a dremel 4000 with the cable extension. It is halfway to the foredom setup gamma mentioned.
I used mine for about 5 or 6 years to port and polish 2 stroke rc engines. they easily handle 10-14k rpms for 2-4 hours non stop. brushes are cheap and stupid easy.
when i had it setup in my shop, it hung from a hook in the ceiling and i used the flexible wand to do all the work.
they also make equivalent tools for compressed air if you have an air compressor. much cheaper and will last longer than all other options. much higher rpms too.
something like this
