KZ750-e diagnostic help was created by lousankz
Hey All,

I am new to the community and to riding in general having just bought my first bike in a 1982 KZ750-E. After riding for 100 or so miles after purchase I have started to hear a pinging or "tinking" if you will that seems to rise and fall with the engine revs. I didnt hear anything when I purchased it (likely due to an untrained ear) but applying knowledge from a history of working on cars it sounds like it could be coming from the valves based on the noise and location of where it seems to be coming from. I can try and upload a video to youtube if that would help but I wanted to see if there was any opinions out there about where I should start with the noise I am hearing or if it is common with these bikes. Bike has 44k on it.

Thanks in advance!

Congrats to a nice scoore.

It will be a good idea to check the valves as a lot of riders ignore checking the valves as changing shims requires lifting the cams.
But before you go there, check if it not a exhaust leak. When the headers don't seal good against the exhaust ports it gives off a sound like a tinking valve.
