Mark II engine I.D. ?? with 28mm Pumpers

Another question? Are 28mm OEM pumpers worth the money?? I would assume only for a Mark II or 80 Z1R restoration. I always thought the pumper carbs were ugly for other bikes. it also has another set of the same carbs, not rebuilt?? I'll see them Monday. 2 sets. 1 clean and no idea on other ??
He wants $400 for the 2 sets of carbs? And the engine plus all his greasy, rusted crap in a box . It's local, only 30 minutes away from me. It is a chain drive engine, could be LTD or MarkII? I'll get to see the engine # and search zedder, when I get there.
Just looking for opinions?
Thanks in advance.

They all had the big pin 16t one and the alt taper is bigger for the dished rotor.
There was an 1000A model that had the heavier 1000 crank but still had the 8mm alt bolt and woodruff key so maybe that is what you are thinking of.
With that alt cover it has to be a MK2 type engine with big pin 16t crank.
Could be a Z1r-D2, mk2 or B/LTD.
Engine number will tell.
And those 28 pumpers the best of all the carbs. so are worth money.
$400 for the lot is a gift.

I'm gonna pull cam cover to count the cam sprocket teeth. cases are silver, so it must have been an LTD?
I'll let you know tomorrow with some pics. There is a 2nd set of carbs there too. Hope the stuff is good!

I said I did not even want to make offer, it would have been $100. It had points still. The only thing it had good, was that it turned over! Plus it was oil clean inside the cam cover. Oh well had to try. Spent an hour in a cold garage. It was only 33 degrees out!

So what engine is it ?z1kzonly wrote: Looked at engine. Not Mark II. # 754611. Small pin crank. 30 teeth cam sprockets.
Never seen a 15t cranked engine with that finned mk2 alt cover here in the uk and i've seen and had them all and thought i almost knew it all too .
Can't even cobble together a franken motor like that because the alternator is totally different and the 15t crank taper wont accept the larger tapered dished rotor.

DFIGPZ wrote: Most of the 79/80 LTD 1000'S I tore apart had 15T cranks in them but not all of them.
So did these originate from a US plant to use up surplus 15t cranks and is it just a small amount of them and just LTD's ?
Was there any model designation or engine number range to distinguish what crank etc was fitted or was it russian roulette as to what you got ?
Over here in the UK all stock square cam cover motors ( also fitted to ST , LTD and Z1R D2 ) came with 16t cranks and finned alt and ign covers.
They never had a 15t crank here.
The big selling point for the MK2 motor was the revised styling and the stronger crank and gearbox,
Obviously it's only the diameter of the taper that prevented the later dished rotor to fit the 15t crank the so I presume they simply just cut the small taper in the dished rotor.
