Hey all!

Thanks in advance for your help. My uncle and I (he is a master Harley mechanic), ripped apart my KZ750's engine to replace the starter clutch. However, he noted that the oil pressure sending unit looked "bad" and that I should order a new part. I need your help!

1) Is the unit called a sending unit? Is it called a oil pressure sensor? Uncle said sending unit...internet says both.
2) ANY idea where I can buy one (I've looked online!). Does anyone know the part number? Or if other year models use the same piece?

Thanks so much for all of your help!

To find part number go to
Kawasaki.com
Owner Center
Parts
scroll down and select Category, year, model etc. Check the parts diagram/fiche for crankcase.

I wonder what "looked bad" means. Damaged ? Otherwise and couple of simple tests will tell whether working or not.
To download a work shop manual kere go to home page and scroll down

Hey, JR!

Thank you! I looked, can't find it in the schematics. I'm not 100% sure why uncle said it needed replacing...I think the wire that connected to it broke off? I'm not sure, but rest assured, if he had the testing equipment or ability to fix it, he absolutely would have. It seemed pretty certain it needed replaced, but I'm not sure why.

Sure its the crankcase schematic? I'm still utterly lost....not to mention finding the part online in the event I find the number, or finding a "matching" year bike model that works.

A photo of the motorcycle would help in identifying it. If it's a 4-cyl and you're sure of the model year, then it's probably either a KZ750E standard model or KZ750H LTD which has LTD on the side covers & a fat rear tire. CycleChaos.com has the frame & engine number info for a number of Kawasaki motorcycles. The date of mfg on the steering head vin label isn't necessarily the model year. A 1981 KZ750 could have been made in 1980.

At Partzilla for the 1981 KZ750-E2, the oil pressure switch is in the crankcase diagram.
The other KZ750E models & the KZ750H LTDs use the same part, as well as a number of other KZ models.

Kawasaki call it a switch assembly .
The wire is part of the loom not the sender and is attached with a small bolt, you may want to fix the wire first

part number is 16144-006

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationA good place to buy/research parts... www.partzilla.com/catalog/kawasaki/motorcycle/1980/kz750-e1

Discontinued. I'd try your old one because a new one is off ebay is expensive...

I have been fortunate not to have oil leaking from the switch and my only problems were electrical and required only cleaning of the contact at switch and around the connection.
If there are no obvious signs of damage or oil leaking then testing with a multi meter is simple.

JMKZ: Thanks SO MUCH for taking your time for such a helpful response! Now I"M confused exactly what the issue is, but this is perfect. My uncle himself isn't too internet-savvy, so this is exactly what i'll need to rectify the situation with him. :)

JR - Thanks again for your insightful response. I'm decidedly NOT a tech (though I try), and that saved me....oh so much stress. I'll pay it forward!
