The clymer manual specifies 30 ft lb for the nuts on the posts. That seems high, can anyone confirm this?

Early manuals used to state 25 ft lb and later ones increased that to between 27 to 31 ft lb. (this is with stock compression).
With stock studs 32 ft lb is deemed as the maximum and with HD studs 42 ft lb.
Whatever torque you go for just remember to re-torque after it's cooled down from the first warm up and then again after a few hundred miles.
