1974 kz400 need some parts!! was created by ixos
Hey guys,
Finally got my '74 '400. I need a complete gasket set, and also, the brackets used to mount the exhaust to the engine. Oh, and a new clutch screw (holds the clutch handle to the bar), new headlight (pref. chrome), new speedomoter & mechanical cable that goes with it.
Whew! is that all you ask? well, that's all I can tell from peeping at it last night. Is there a website for parts, or does anyone have anything for sale?
This is my first bike, and want to use it for a year or so 'till I feel comfortable on a larger bike.
Any input helps, thanks a ton in advance,
K

why z1enterprises.com of course.
www.z1enterprises.com/catalog.aspx?pid=KZ400
It may not show everything you need, you can call him and he may have some thing not listed on the site.

You can go to the classifieds section and post your wants or peruse the for sales. Other than that you become an e-bay junkie! It's half the fun! And hopefully less than half the price! Luck!

- I may have a spare set of exhaust bracket, I'm not sure. They are also often found on eBay though...
- The clutch handle screw is an odd one. I could get mine and take measurements if you need it, but I don't have a spare of that.
- A caution about the headlight: on the early 400s, the headlight was smaller than 7 inches, about 6 1/8 inch. If you attempt to put a 7 inch on, you will need a bucket and maybe brackets, and you might have to tweak the brackets a bit to get them to work with the narrower forks. I plan to put a 7" on my 400 as well; I bought a light and bucket from a 550 (chrome bucket) and will make my own brackets. Ibsen from kz400.com also has a 7" halogen light, but his is very well disguised as appearing stock.
- The speedo? Back to eBay.
- The speedo cable? Z1enterprises.com or DennisKirk.com, etc. I always buy new when it comes to cables...
Enjoy!
