.
Saving money is great, but both ring sets are made in Japan.
Perhaps they are the exact same rings, but one doesn't come with KAWASAKI HEAVY INDUSTRIES, LTD. printed on the package.

NIPPON vs. GENUINE KAWASAKI

What disadvantages might be experienced by going with the aftermarket piston rings in this case?

Most likely those Nippon rings will be okay but there is no guarantee. With OEM Kawasaki parts you KNOW they will work.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration

Appreciate the reply, thank you!
I figured at least one forum member would have had re-ringed with a set of Nippon rings, since they are readily available and cost effective (cheap).

Z1E stocks a set Made in Japan:
www.z1enterprises.com/725mm-piston-rings-kz1100.html

Ebay listing has Nippon brand, also Made in Japan:

Not sure I'm ready for a re-ring project, but I have a good Std. bore cylinder block honed and ready, and the nos pistons that I used in my Spring 2015 top-end assembly should be usable with about 20K miles on them. Seems I have everything needed but adequate work space, and the motivation to do it.
Prior to Winter storage I was adding oil more often than I like, and have since rearranged interests. But I tell you what, when I got old red running again the other day, the short spin I took was very exhilarating...so please don't count me out just yet.
