Kz750 cleanup was created by Steve
Hi, looking for some advice. I have a 79 KZ750 twin engine disassembled. The bottom half was poorly stored and mice made a messy home out of it. I was wondering how I would go about cleaning it and whether I should gut that entire half (tranny and all) to thoroughly clean it out?

Thanks,

Definitely open it up for inspection. There is no telling what might be in there--- gravel, a ball peen hammers, a village of midget zombies

If it needs cleaning, a good parts cleaner would be best, but you can use diesel, or any number of solvents. Just be careful not to get any of it in your eyes, up ur nose, etc.

We have pack rats here. They like to build their nests with dog SHT, sticks, rocks, pieces of wire and other debris and to top it off they mix cholla cactus in with it all. Inside they have a bed of fibers stolen from upholstery or whatever they can find. Only way to clean it all out is to open it up. Don't use your hands, a nasty infection can be the result. :pinch:

I'll get a couple pics soon, but how would I go about cleaning it up? The little buggers filled part of it with grass and other organic material. Some have suggested soaking the whole thing in diesel fuel, but it doesn't seem feasible...any thoughts in regards to that problem?

Cheers

Split the cases, remove the trans, clean, reassemble. You will need a factory service manual, a parts cleaner or a tub and scrub brushes, new gaskets and seals, etc......

yeah sounds like you need a parts cleaner. mine has a spout that recirculates solvent which is great for jamming in oil galleries to clean them out
