Dyna s kit for a kz400 which one was created by oldblighty
Has anyone fitted a dyna s trigger to a kz400 / 440, seems dyna don’t do a kit for the kz400 but reading somwhere it has been done by converting a kit from another kz but which one . Need to get the correct kit for the rotor magnet to fit the 400 advance / retard unit.
Thanks.

Thanks for that , I would go for something like this if bike had a battery but need something that doesnt take much juice as running batteryless ignition and need to keep parasitic load to a minimum whilst kick starting , I don’t know if what I am trying to achieve with the dyna s will still give me a spark , it’s a matter of just trial and error.

The KZ650/750 plate will fit. the KZ900/1000 is to big.
I used the stock electronic ignition off a KZ750/4.
It is not a bolt on swap.
The timing will be WAAAAYYY off the mark.
I had to use the KZ400 sleeve and turn own the lobe for the points.
Then pulled the lobe off the electronic sleeve and tacked it with a T.I.G.
You will need a lathe and a T.I.G. welder.
A grinder and your buddies 110v welder won't cut it.

If you are going batteryless, the Dyna S is not the best suited ignition for that. It is very inefficient at best, and may actually prevent you from starting the bike due to the fact that it wastes a lot of power, right when you don't have any to spare, which is when you are trying to start the bike.

The factory electronic ignition is far better suited for going batteryless. It uses no power until just before a spark is needed.
Even points would be better than the Dyna S for going batteryless, but the factory electronic ignition is still better for that.

Hi thanks , it is already batteryless with points setup so Dont want to waste money on an ignition that won’t work , I’ll look for a kz 440 ignition but not many come up for sale across the pond,
I’ll give the wanted section a try see what comes up.
