Gaskets was created by gordone
Hi,

Oil pan & base gasket. should I apply something on the gasket or just install it? I have copper spray for head gasket, something to use? better alternative?

For the valve cover I understand I can have some oil on the gasket against the block and nothing against to the valve cover,
then can I take off and on the valve cover without damage the gasket

I only use a gasket glue, sealant, or RTV where more than two parts come together on a gasket surface. For example, for the clutch cover gasket, I put a small (tiny) smear of wet RTV where the crankcase halves join before placing the clutch cover gasket. I also use sealant where wires pass through rubber grommets, and where the rubber grommets fit into the engine side cover - like at the stator cover. Other than that, I only use oil on the gaskets, both sides, when installing them. I only install head gaskets dry, when the manual or gasket manufacturer says to do so. I have put a thin coat of gear oil on head gaskets that have to come off frequently. Many other mechanics over the years have asked me why I don't like using RTV, gasket sealer, gasket adhesive, etc. I tell them that I don't glue my engines together, that is why there are bolts....

Gaskets will still stick to the parts eventually - even when oiled during assembly. The oil helps the gasket crush and seal, and it does make it easier to remove and clean off the old gasket later if the need arises again. I lightly grease (HP moly grease) the paper / fiber type cam cover gasket so I can re-use it a few times, both sides so it is just sticky enough to stay in place while being installed. Like I said, I don't like to glue gaskets. Oil on the base gasket....

Hylomar. Use it on everything but the head gasket.

Just to check I understand you, my English is not 100% :)

You are using gasket glue, sealant, or RTV on gaskt before you mount it, clutch cover, base gasket, generator cover etc....
and on the valve cover you are using oil on the gasket? Or are you only using gasket glue, sealant, or RTV whee you don`t have a physical gasket?

summary:
Using gasket glue, sealant, or RTV on gasket where you don`t plan to remove the cover or the part,
and where you plan to remove time to time as valve cover I use oil on of the side of the gasket?

Or is these over kill, I don`t need to use anything on gaskets I will not remove?
And oil use oil one side of the valve cover gasket...

??

The only gasket I use oil on is the valve cover, and only on one side. I would not use oil on any other gasket. And you don't need sealer either other than in the spots where Kawasaki suggests. See below.

These was precisely!
I have not read the service manual carefully yet for reassembly the engine, has focus on other tings.. but will of course do it before I start, I understand it is a lot of good information there....

Then I have one stupid question left... "Three Bond Case Sealant Liquid Gasket 1184A100G", can be used ass sealere on these places you
indicated above or must I use another sealer for better results?

Yup. Case gaskets, o rings, VC gasket, bowl gaskets, etc.

An old airplane builder use to live next door to me. I happened to wander over to see how he was doing on the day he was rebuilding the engine. He had hylomar there and used it everywhere. I figureed if it was good enough for an aircraft engine, it should be GREAT for a Z1 (at the time) engine. That was maybe 20 years ago. Been using it ever since If you don't want it to leak, hylomar is the answer. Cheers

This photo is an OEM Kawasaki 750 head gasket. Kawasaki changed the head gasket quite a few times over the years and this version is one of the later ones. The red stuff is RTV sealer. Coating such a large area is contrary to what the manual states but it does suggest there may be some good in doing so.

1. I will use Wiseco / Cometic head gasket so I understand from you I shall use sealer where Kawa indicated on the picture you attached?

2. Or maybe I shall use a thin layer of sealer on both side of the gasket not only on indicated area? Since kawa have started to use RTV on almost the whole gasket?

3. Can I use ""Three Bond Case Sealant Liquid Gasket 1184A100G"?

4. Shall I apply thin layer of sealer on the gasket it self or on the metal?
