The KZ400 I bought has a damaged oil filter bolt head. The PO apparently used way too much torque installing it, and so trying to remove it with the remaining material still present. Tried a 6 point socket but there's not enough bolt left to keep the socket from slipping. Tried large set of vice grip pliers, but they start to strip the head after a certain amount of torque is applied. Anyone run across this and been able to get out of such a screwup??

Can you upload a picture of the damaged bolt.
In a worst case scenario i would weld a bigger nut on the remaining bolt head.

I appreciate it. Actually, I just came in for the night and I'm happy to say that tonight I was able to get it broke loose. Of course the head is destroyed so now to eBay to buy a replacement.

I recently salvaged a oil filter bolt from the scrap bin by brazing on a nut works great now.

Sometimes a smaller size Stillson wrench (aka pipe wrench) will serve to grip onto and loosen a buggered bolt. The Stillson wrench's grip gets progressively tighter as pressure is increasingly supplied. It's purposefully designed to loosen and tighten "round" pipes and round pipe fittings.

Good Fortune! :)
