sealant on the cam plugs? was created by lgyee4
I"m replacing the cam plugs on my kz1000 and didn't notice any sealant on the old leaky plugs I took out. I can't find any mention of using sealant in my repair manual. Do I need to use any adhesive or sealant on these?
Also, the old valve cover gasket didn't have any adhesive on it. Typical?

Cam end plugs and valve cover gasket don´t need any sealant but a very, very thin layer of non-curing sealing compound don´t hurt.
I prefer and use Hylomar M (Blue)

What you found is typical and the way the factory did it. Some folks will put a thin layer of Three Bond (aka Kawi Bond, Yamabond, Hondabond) on the curved sealing surface of the plugs, then install them and the cam cover without gasket, and only lightly tight on the bolts. Leave it overnight. The next day, remove the cover, install the gasket dry, or very lightly rubbed with grease, and install per fsm instructions.

Hope you have quality plugs as some aftermarket ones are shyte and not worth the packaging.
