!983 KZ750 LTD-Shaft Oil Seals was created by jperry
Hello everyone, glad to be a new member. Lots of dedicated KZ riders here with good info.
A friend of mine recently purchased a 1983 KZ750 LTD shaft drive. (Interesting bike)
I have done some initial maintenance and it is running nicely aside from a clutch rattle that happens while warming up. Could be issues with the carb sync, or just sticking plates. I will have him swap to an oil recommended here.
The other issue with the bike is a slow oil leak coming from the left side cover of what I assume is the gearbox. I have acquired a new cover gasket P/N# 11009-1329 in preparation, but I also need replacement oil seals for both the shifter and the secondary shaft. I have not been able to tear into the bike that much yet so I have not gotten eyes on what is under that cover. I also do not yet have a factory manual for the 750 shaft, all diagrams/pictures I have found have been for the more common chain drive.
My question is, does anyone know if there are any other oil seals under that cover that will need to be replaced other than the 2 mentioned above? My second question, does anyone know if the 2 seals I mentioned are the same size/part number? The part fiches I have been through seem to leave seals out.

This one shows seals, and I'd bet that Partzilla does, too.

Isn't that one only for the chain drive? When I search the fiche for the shaft drive KZ750, that engine cover section has the trans cover and seals omitted.

I am going to poke around some more and try and figure this out. A service manual would really help on this. I am going to see if I can convince the owner to buy one.
Finally, it looks like the gasket section for the KZ750 might have an incorrect gasket listed as compatible for the shaft drive bike.
I purchased an 11060-1056 based on this.

Looks like I might need a 11009-1293 instead.

That last link might have my answer as well, just wish I hadn't dropped the $10 for the one listed in the gasket kit. Hopefully this thread can save someone else the hassle.

Hmm. The link on the Kawai site says Shaft, but you are right, those are the chain drive parts.

Just noticed that this thread title is !983 instead of 1983. Not sure if a mod can fix that quick.
