Electronic Ignition for 1980 KZ650 LTD E1

Hi all,

My bike is now on the road and just finishing a few jobs - I've replaced the points and stripped and cleaned the advance unit.
I've set the gap to 0.014 for each side and strobbed the timing. The manual says I should see the F mark on tick over and the two lines at 3000 rpm, neither of those align up on either set of points, regardless of the back plate position.
I'd like to take the lot off and chuck it in the bin - what's the recommendation from which manufacturer for an electronic setup please?

The Dyna S is a great ignition, I've had one on my 650 for going on 30 years now. Once set you NEVER have to dink with it again.

With the Dyna S, can he use his points timing advancer or will he need a timing advancer from a later 650 with electronic ignition?

Yes the advancer is retained with the Dyna S.
